Murali Aravamudan is a serial entrepreneur, inventor and engineer who built and led successful media and telecom technology companies prior to founding nference in 2013.
In 2005, Mr. Aravamudan co-founded and served as chief executive officer of Veveo, a software company that enabled quick, efficient content discovery in input-constrained devices (such as televisions and mobile phones). Veveo led its target market segments with more than 100 million device deployments and in innovation of conversational interfaces, resulting in 89 U.S. patents and more than 70 pending applications. He helped raise $28M in equity in two rounds from Matrix Partners, Norwest Ventures and Northbridge Ventures. Veveo was acquired by Tivo (formerly Rovi) in 2014 for over $75M.
Prior to founding Veveo, Mr. Aravamudan was vice president and general manager of the Winphoria division of Motorola’s Global Telecom Solutions Sector. He founded Winphoria Networks in 2000 and served as chief technology officer until its acquisition by Motorola in 2003 for $200M. Winphoria pioneered development of the mobile wireless softswitch and instant communications applications for mobile networks. At Winphoria he helped raise $54M in equity.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Aravamudan served as vice president and chief technology officer of the communications software business at Lucent Technologies and as department head of communications software research at Bell Laboratories. He was a principal involved in the creation of softswitch, the revolutionary technology for IP-based telephone networks that is today the foundation for next-generation converged voice and data networks.
Mr. Aravamudan has authored 110 US patents and has more than 100 pending patents in the areas of search, personalization, conversational interfaces, machine learning/AI systems, data networking, telephony and, recently, computational biology. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru India.
Venky Soundararajan, PhD is an entrepreneur, scientist, and prolific inventor who has established the world-class nference team of over 200 MD/PhD graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Soundararajan leads the nference teams in the areas of scientific and clinical research, data sciences, strategic partnerships, and business development.
As the chief evangelist for nference, Dr. Soundararajan has been instrumental in building our long-term strategic partnership with the Mayo Clinic’s Clinical Data Analytics Platform, enabling the automated de-identification, augmented curation, and commercialization of aggregated biomedical insights from nearly 9.8 million patient’s complete electronic health records. Building on this prescient platform partnership, Dr. Soundararajan has led multi-year R&D data-science alliances with global biopharma companies, through collaborations spanning all therapeutic areas and the gamut of applications from the discovery of novel therapeutic and diagnostic solutions by analyzing deep multi-omics data sets, to harnessing regulatory grade Real-World Evidence (RWE) for quantifying Quality of Life (QoL) and therapeutic outcomes for patients.
Within nference, Dr. Soundararajan has envisioned and steered the creation of a best-in-class platform for holistic data sciences (nferX) that makes unstructured and structured biomedical knowledge computable. His own scientific research has produced diverse breakthroughs including decoding the earliest signals of COVID-19 onset, identifying the reservoirs of SARS-CoV-2 infectivity at single cell resolution, discovering multiple tumor-specific antigens for cancers with severe unmet need, and significantly advancing the clinical diagnosis of complex diseases. His ultimate mission is to teach machines how to read and comprehend all forms of biological data and clinical knowledge, towards the vision of transforming healthcare through machine intelligence.
Dr. Soundararajan has authored over 50 scientific papers and articles, and has few dozen granted patents and applications. His scientific findings have been covered by The Washington Post, New York Times, STAT News, CBS news and other mainstream media outlets. He received a PhD in Biological Engineering from MIT, where he developed the first computational models for studying the evolutionary patterns of hyper-mutative viral pathogens at atomic resolution. Dr. Soundararajan also completed a fellowship in Genetics at Harvard Medical School and received a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati, India.
